Find Fossils in the Bonnechere Caves

Journey deep into the Bonnechere Caves, a geological wonder that was millions of years in the making! Over 500 million years ago, the Caves were at the bottom of a tropical sea. That sea is long gone, of course, but what remains in our more modern times is an astounding caves system complete with stalactites – or rock icicles – hanging above your head. A trip inside the caves reveals limestone walls all around you that encase ancient fossils of coral and sea creatures from the time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth – with all there is to see, you’ll soon discover why the area is known as Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada.

From July through September, you can turn your trip to the Caves in to a Fossil Hunting Supper, in conjunction with Frisco’s Grill. Not only can you comb the Cave walls for your own preserved ancient sea fossil to take home, but afterward you can take your appetite to Frisco’s in nearby Eganville and choose one of the gastropod selections from the menu.

Visit the Bonnechere Caves website for this year’s Fossil Hunting Suppers schedule.
